(Download The Conjuring) From the director of Saw and Insidious comes another story of a family terrified by a haunted house.(The Conjuring Download) Based on true events, The Conjuring starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, and Lili Taylor tells the tale of a family of seven terrorized by demonic possession. Is this film as scary as the marketing is telling audiences or is it just another run of the mill Amityville ripoff?

(Download The Conjuring) In 1968, a husband and wife team of paranormal investigators have made a name for themselves in the world of ghosts and demons. Ed and Lorraine Warren debunked hundreds of cases where people thought their houses were haunted, but it was actually explainable circumstances terrorizing the innocent. Every once in awhile, they do indeed come across an actual possession or haunting. (Download The Conjuring Movie) When they cleanse a house, they collect the possessed object and hide it away for safekeeping. Years pass and the two become the most sought out experts in their field.

Everything seems great until Carolyn notices that all the clock in the house stop at 3:07 every night. Their daughter, Cindy starts talking to an imaginary friend named Rory that you can only see in the reflection of a creepy music box.(Watch The Conjuring Online) Another daughter starts sleepwalking again and others complain that they are being grabbed in the middle of the night. The house is always cold even though there is nothing wrong with the furnace and the smell of rotten meat lingers in every room.

(Download The Conjuring) Concerned for the welfare of her family, Carolyn seeks the help of the Warrens. Reluctantly they accept the invitation and go out the the farmhouse to investigate. Lorraine being a powerful clairvoyant immediately picks up on the evil of the house. Can the Warrens and their ghost hunting team figure out what’s actually going on in the house before things really get terrifying for the Perron Family?

(Download The Conjuring) I really like scary and more so disturbing movies, but lately I’ve become bored with the same premise over and over again. I’m also tired of movies that instead of using creativity and intelligence to frighten, they rely on cheap jump scares. Unfortunately The Conjuring is one of those movies. I was a big fan of the original Saw because I thought the premise was super creative. It also had a disturbing factor. I also enjoyed Sinister because it relied more on your own twisted imagination to figure out what Ethan Hawke was watching from the film reels he found. Imagination is what I felt The Conjuring lacked.

(Download The Conjuring) What The Conjuring did do properly was give the audience characters you could relate to and feel sorry for. Ron Livingston plays Roger, the patriarch of the Perron Family. I know it’s not only me, but because of his performance in the cult classic comedy Office Space, I kept internally thinking that he and his family have a case of ”The Mondays” on their hands. I liked him, and as a father of three daughters, I understood his helplessness in the situation he was faced with trying to protect his family. Patrick Wilson plays the paranormal investigator Ed Warren. Wilson was in the original Insidious and will return for the sequel. My favorite role of his was as Nite Owl in the Watchmen adaptation. While both male actors were competent in their roles, they were completely outshadowed by their leading ladies, Vera Farmiga and Lili Taylor as the film was really about the mothers. If you are a fan of A&E’s Bates Motel, then you’ll enjoy Farmiga’s portrayal of the highly clairvoyant Lorraine Warren. Though her you experience the demonic pain that plagues the Perron house as she is able to see into the terrifying past of the farmhouse and the surrounding property. Lili Taylor as Carolyn Perron is who the audience will experience the family’s suffering as she is thrown around the house and bears the bruises and burns as her family is terrorized. I liked both of these women in their roles.

(Download The Conjuring) Where I think The Conjuring fails is not necessarily the movie’s fault, but rather that we have seen this same movie over and over again. Poltergeist, The Amityville Horror, and The Exorcist are movies just off the top of my head that had pretty much a similar plot. And unlike the previously mentioned movies, I was not terrified at all. It wasn’t because I didn’t like the characters, but cheap jump scares are just that… cheap. You barely see the boogeymen of the house and when you do, they just look like dirty witches and unwashed children. What is really creepy is the open segment of the movie that introduces the Warrens. They are investigating the case of a possessed doll. The doll is so ugly it looks like the ugly big sister of Chucky. To me that was the only part of the movie that I thought was truly frightening. What I think I would have enjoyed was more of that backstory that was slightly hinted at.

(Download The Conjuring) I don’t want to give away the ending, but I will say this, I saw it from a mile away. And what the characters are dealing with in the finale, was almost laughable. The Conjuring is based on the case files of the real life Warrens, so this may lead to sequels and/or prequels as the husband and wife duo investigate other paranormal experiences. Their room filled with haunted keepsakes and trophies can lead to many more films being made. So if you do like The Conjuring, there may be more in the future. For me I thought it was just a throw away, cheesy horror flick that seemed like a bigger budget version of Paranormal Activity.

(Download The Conjuring) I may be critical of scary movies, but I was not at all scared by The Conjuring. I thought every jump scare the film provided was highly predictable. Unless you just love seeing scary movies at the theater, I recommend just waiting to rent this movie to have a date night with your loved one. In the meantime check out Sinister or Insidious made by the same people.

(Download The Conjuring) In structure, tone and even characterization, James Wan's follow-up to surprisingly effective supernatural haunted house chiller Insidious is almost a carbon copy. A happy family moves into a new home, only to have past misdeeds — theirs or those of others — come back to haunt them, primarily by creeping about the house and threatening their children in the middle of the night.

Both films reflect the style of simpler, more effectively eerie horror films of decades past — most noticeably The Changeling, in the case of The Conjuring — similarly reiterating traditionalist anxieties about religious ambivalence and the relationship with a less stable modern nuclear family.

(Download The Conjuring) It's a peculiar tactic, seeing as familial deconstructions and conservative fears, while wildly popular in the '80s and '90s, are vilified in a politically correct modern climate. However, what Wan seems unwittingly aware of is that the underlying morality associated, stemming from Judeo-Christian concepts, is as aggressive now as it was then. The context might have shifted, but the same hate exists, only within the context of ragingly insincere inclusion assertions and issue-involvement. As such, his play on gender politics in The Conjuring, suggesting that women have an intense connection to the spiritual world, holds up well despite being vaguely sexist and regressive.

(Download The Conjuring) After the Perron family — Carolyn (Lili Taylor), Roger (Ron Livingston) and their five daughters — move into an old estate they purchased at a bank auction, Carolyn wakes up every morning with various bruises. Daughter Christine (Joey King) feels someone tugging on her feet in the middle of the night, while Cindy (Mackenzie Foy) routinely sleepwalks into her older sister's room, banging her head off an old cabinet repetitively. Collectively,(Watch The Conjuring Online) they notice an intense coldness in the house, along with a transient aroma of rotting meat and a tendency for the clocks to stop at 3:07 a.m. every night.

Of course, these events escalate to more aggressive and dire occurrences, especially after they uncover a boarded-up cellar filled with dusty furniture.

(Download The Conjuring) Before Carolyn seeks the aid of paranormal investigators Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson), there's a palpable sense of dread. Wan's handling of loud knocks in the night or match-lit explorations of small, unexplored rooms in the house, and even a blind-folded game of hide-and-go seek, are given careful consideration of tone and space, having a slow-building discomfort that results in a gradual escalation of fear and anxiety.

(Download The Conjuring) This makes the necessary expository diversions, such as Lorraine's verbalized research about a witch that killed her newborn, swore herself to the devil and promptly hung herself in the front yard, possess more of a disturbing effect than a cheesy one. In fact, many of the rules and back stories presented in The Conjuring are quite derivative, despite all leading back to female intuition and connectedness to a greater otherworldly power, but work quite well within the vocabulary of a film that creates a safe environment for embracing cheap, religious anxiety.

(Download The Conjuring) After Lorraine's visionary skills are detailed — she can see and feel spirits around the family, sometimes more than she can emotionally handle — the parallels are drawn clearly enough for us to know that Carolyn's bruises are likely connected to the many horror stories of suicide and brutality that came before them in their new home.

(Download The Conjuring) Even though the plot is predictable, the gradual descent from night-time scares to full-on acts of aggression, possession and bodies being thrown about like rag dolls is intelligently rendered, leaving the visceral experience of this simultaneously misogynist and feminist text to be genuinely, consistently frightening. Wan has dropped some of the misguided comic relief,(Download The Conjuring) although not all, unfortunately, and overly detailed explanation present in Insidious in favour of in-the-moment action and constant peril, honing the act of scaring an audience to an art.

The end result is a highly convincing and altogether effective horror film that's easily one of the scariest in recent memory and definitely the creepiest so far in 2013.(Watch The Conjuring Online) That it's extremely well acted and culturally conscious is just a bonus.
